Journey of the Pashmina Shawl
November 11, 2013
The journey begins at 14,000 feet of elevation in the high mountain ranges of Kashmir. The goats are brushed, the fiber is cleaned and then cleaned again until all excess is removed. Then the fiber is handspun into a thread. Pashmina scarves can be dyed in over 500 colors, but the natural colors of the pashmina goats make the best scarves and shawls. Once a color has been choosen the thread is hand-woven into a shawl or scarf. Then the shawl must be cleaned and washed before it can be delivered to your door. The process of a pashmina shawl can take 2 - 7 months.
