The week of 8 February is extremely exciting for the Kashimir Rose team. We are estactic to partner with Foxcroft School's Wintermission week.
Wintermission at Foxcroft is a one week opportunity for students to complete an intensive, educational and cultural course. Kashmir Rose has an interactive week planned with a mix of education, art history, and inspiration for the girls. The students will be introduced to works of art from the French Regency Era, depicting the Kashmir Shawl as a focal point of the Artisit's work. We will dive deeper into the anataomy of the Kashmir Shawl, learning about the evolution of the paisley. A lecture of artistic photogrpahy will showcase the Shades of Kashmir Rose collection. The students will be encouraged to present their ideas to Kashmir Rose's Photographic Artist.
An important aspect of education is immersion into the world of art history with ornaments of fine craftsmanship. Ideally Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens seemed like the perfect match for Kashmir Rose to arrange a private tour of the students of Foxcroft School. Marjorie Merriweather Post bought Hillwood in 1955 and soon decided her home would be a museum that would inspire and educate the public. Her northwest Washington, D.C. estate endowed the country with the most comprehensive collection of Russian imperial art outside of Russia, a distinguished 18th-century French decorative art collection, and twenty-five acres of serene landscaped gardens and natural woodlands for all to enjoy."
Hillwood's collection has a painting of a young lady from the 1830s wrapped gracefully in a yellow Kashmir Shawl. "Her dress is dark blue or black satin with short puffed sleeves and rests off her shoulders. Over her left shoulder and right arm, she wears a yellow Kashmir shawl with designs in colors at the ends. Her left hand holds one end of the shawl, and the right hand rests at her side."
The week will be fun filled with art, history and education wrapped around the Kashmir Shawl -a symbol of status and love. Our goal is to inspire art lovers about the rich fine craftsmanship of the Kashmir Shawl and how it's journey to the west spreads love of the Master Kashmiri Artisans. When you wrap yourself in a Kashmir Rose Shawl, you are also immersing yourself in the legacy of love and passion.
